Hello everyone, I'm Uzoma Nwaogwugwu – Refinery's Head of Social.

What do you love about your job?

My favourite part about my role is that it’s multi-faceted. No two days are the same and that’s what I love! This really suits my personality and how I approach work as I'm always looking for the next *thing* or how we can build on our success.

The speed of change when it comes to Social can be a double-edged sword, so I make sure I stay ahead of the curve by regularly researching platform and algorithm changes that might impact our social media strategies. It also allows us to have sight of any trends that could be relevant to clients too.

What were you up to before you joined Refinery?

I’ve been working in marketing for almost 10 years. I started off in an insights and planning role, focusing predominantly on campaign analytics. Working for both Healthcare and Consumer within insights and planning helped develop my ability to think strategically. By nature, I love problem solving and I’ve had the opportunity to do that throughout my career.

Tell us a bit more about you

I’m a huge fan of music – it was always my favourite subject as I loved to sing. I played the clarinet for 10 years, and I’m self-taught on the guitar and keyboard although I don’t play instruments now nearly half as much as I used to/should do. I’ll take any opportunity to see live music of pretty much any genre!

When I’m not singing, you’ll find me watching anything and everything to do with property. I love interior styling and design (and probably spend more time than I should on Rightmove).

What’s an interesting fact about you?

When I was 15, I bumped into Steven Mulhern in town (when I lived in Birmingham), and he asked me to sing as part of a CITV advert they were filming for. So, I spent a few months as, what I would classify, a major celebrity (slight exaggeration) in school thanks to a short 15 second feature on TV.
