Hi everyone, I’m Danny - Refinery’s Creative Lead of Motion.

What do you love about your job?

Being an Art Director brings new challenges with each brief, how do you tackle a specific need to creative engagement? How can we push boundaries within a timeframe and budget? With Refinery’s client base spread across a tonne of different industries, really keeps the creative variety fresh. I’m especially passionate about the ideation / conceptual phase of a new project, but can also turn my hand to the production side whether that’s AD’ing shoots, or picking up edits/animation. I enjoy heading up the Motion team, each person has their own individual skillsets and it’s great seeing collaboration come together to not only create awesome work but it's great seeing them all grow in their own interests and passions.

Tell us a bit more about you

In my spare time I’m a big movie lover, if I’m not at the cinema with a beer in hand, I’m at a hardcore festival or gig! Me and my partner also love an adventure, if it’s not climbing the front of a glacier we’re getting lost in some city soaking up the culture!

What were you up to before you joined Refinery?

In my pre-creative industry days I worked as a Photographer in a studio so I gained quite a bit of experience on shoots early on. Once I’d graduated in Art Direction I worked at TBWA before travelling Canada/US to only find my feet here at Refinery just over 10 years ago. I do still have ‘Sandwich Artist’ on my CV from my Subway days though.

What’s an interesting fact about you?

From a very young age I’ve always been into music, classically trained on piano as a kid, picked up guitars / bass / drums / vocals as I grew up in the ‘alternative’ scene, I’ve even headlined a festival in the past in one of my many hardcore bands! Even to this day I still use my music production skills in the job where it’s needed. I might even pick up a microphone again one day – who knows!
